Panel on 'Energy Storage Solutions of Tomorrow'

The South African-German Energy Partnership hosted a virtual panel discussion on energy storage themed ‘The Storage Solutions of Tomorrow’ held on the 20th November from 11h30 – 12h30.

Within the context of market potential and challenges of energy storage solutions - energy storage will play a key role in stabilizing a more volatile energy system based on renewable energies in the future. However, implementation of storage solutions especially with new advanced technologies, is accompanied by challenges and holistic quality assurance measures that still have to be materialized. The session provided insights on market potential of storage solutions, which technology type most likely will prevail and how technical and economic risks can be mitigated.

The online panel discussion was hosted on swapcard online platform, owned and managed by Messe Frankfurt South Africa. The moderator Dr Cosmas Chiteme was joined on the panel by Dr Matthias Vetter, Head of Electrical Energy Storage Systems Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems andValeska Gottke, Head of Communication at the German Energy Storage Association (BVES). The South African private sector was represented by Daniel Goldstuck, the Head of Energy Storage Services at SOLA Group.

The webinar was held within the framework of the virtual Solar Power Africa Conference 2020 that was organized by the South African-German Energy Partnership and its partner Messe Frankfurt South Africa and took place from 16 – 20 November 2020.
